NC Native. Semi- evergreen, dense shrub with glossy green foliage. Aromatic gray fruits are an important food source for birds. Plant 1 male per 4 females for fruiting.  Fruits have been used for soap and candle making. Tolerates drought, steep slope, erosion, salt, and wet sites. Tough and low maintenance.
