Compact shrub with a graceful arching habit. Beautiful dark crimson-red foliage with pinkish white, button-like blooms. Excellent resistance to powdery mildew. Use as a bold accent or part of a mixed border. Good cut flower. Selection of a WNC native species, and a great alternative to Barberry/Berberis.
Species is a WNC Native and a wonderful shrub that deserves to be used more widely in the landscape. They attract bees, butterflies, pollinators, and songbirds. Physocarpus opulifolius is heat and drought tolerant once established, and can tolerate occasional flooding making them an excellent choice for streambanks and rain gardens. They are fantastic in butterfly gardens, native gardens, and pollinator gardens.
Zones 3-8, cold hardy down to -40F.
