💚Plant Nerd: Sugar Maples are indeed the legendary tree used for making delicious maple syrup! They are the only kind of maple tree used commerically for this purpose. Native Americans, settlers, and even modern homesteaders have used the trees to create their own at-home maple syrup and there are many interesting stories and recipes surrounding these sweet and giving trees.

Sugar Maples have amazing and powerful root systems. Through "hydraulic lift" they bring water from deep layers of the soil up to the top to both help themselves and also generously share with nearby plants. 

We recommend treating these trees with the respect that they deserve, and avoid planting them near driveways, sidewalks, and septic systems.
