💚Plant Nerd: Peter E Girard of Geneva, Ohio decided in the late 1940s to breed beautiful, cold-hardy azaleas with a compact growth form. He went nuts crossing the Gable hybrid Azaleas, and then started crossing everything with his own seedlings. Many of his plants have lasted the test of time, and are classic cultivars for the garden.
