Abundant pea-like rosy-lavender flowers appear early spring before foliage. Heart-shaped deep apricot leaves appear and mature through shades of orange, gold and yellow with all colors present at once! Foliage turns a shade of lime green in the summer heat. Resists heat and burn. Ideal specimen or accent plant.

🐝Help native bees: according to The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, Eastern Redbud trees are important for native bees by providing habitat and/or materials for nest construction. 

🦋Help butterflies and moths: Here in NC, Eastern Redbud trees are larval host plants for at least 2 species of butterflies, including the showy Spicebush Swallowtail, and are nectar plants for at least 3 species of butterflies. They are also host plants for at least 39 species of moths. 

🐦Help birds: The audubon society says that these trees can attract: Cardinals, Chickadees, Crows, Finches, Hummingbirds, Mockingbirds, Nuthatches, Blackbirds, New World Sparrows, Thrushes, Vireos, Waxwings, Wood Warblers, Wrens, and more. All those caterpillars (larval host) species mentioned above are premium baby bird food; the bean pods provide valuable food for birds and other creatures.

🦌Deer resistant: Eastern Redbud trees aren't at the top of the deer menu, but if you have many deer, consider protecting trees when young.

🌳Juglone resistant: These trees can be planted near Black Walnut trees.
