Citrus - Blood Orange 'Tarocco #7'
Citrus sinensis ‘Tarocco #7’
RARE. The largest of the Blood Oranges, Tarocco fruit is deep orange, juicy, and delicious. Sweet, with a hint of tartness, the flesh turns a striking deep red when ripe. This red is due to the natural presence of anthocyanins, providing an extra health boost to already nutritious citrus. There are very few, if any, seeds.
The full history of Tarocco is shrouded in mystery. The original genetics came from somewhere in the Mediterranean before traveling to Florida in the 1880s, and then to the west coast, where it became part of the special citrus collection at University of California, Riverside. Zone 9b.
Bring indoors when temperatures drop below 50°F degrees and place by a large bright window, or use supplemental lighting.
For best fruit production, feed these an organic citrus fertilizer, such as Down to Earth's Citrus Fertilizer.
