Gorgeous! Elegant blue-green foliage and violet flower spikes midsummer to fall, with a natural white powder coating. Rare. Native to US South. Beautiful in margins of ponds, pools, water gardens, and bog gardens. Plant in 12-18” of water over the crown. Perennial.
Larval food plant for the Brazilian Skipper butterfly. Also attracts butterflies, carpenter bees, bumblebees and hummingbirds. Ducks feed on the seeds.
Zones 6-10. 3-6’T x 2’W.
Plant nerd: These plants are useful for phytoremediation, which is where particular plants can clean things in their environment. Thalia dealbata is very useful for removing Cadmium from water, it can even help remove some neonicotinoids, and is being evaluated to see what else it might help with.
