Lovage
Levisticum officinale

Stems and foliage taste like a spicier mix of celery and parsley. Perennial. Long cultivated in Europe, the leaves being used as a herb, the roots as a vegetable, and the seeds as a spice (similar to fennel). Pollinators love the flowers.

Periodically prune these way back to cause the plant to grow a flush of fresh new leaves.

Native to the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia.

Fun fact: Researchers have found a document written around 800 AD that notes which plants are to be planted on Charlemagne's royal properties, and Lovage is on the list.

Plant Nerd: Lovage, Celery, and Parsley are related - they all belong to the Apiaceae family.

Full to part sun. Moist, well-draining soil. 3-6’T x 2-3’W.

Zones 4-8.
