Eastern White Pine

Pinus strobus

Pyramidal form with strong horizontal branches holding attractive blue- green needles: open, broad, irregular habit. Evergreen. Fast growing. WNC Native, good for birds and other wildlife, can live 200+ years. Needles are pleasingly soft to the touch.

Eastern White Pine used to be found in large swaths of old growth forest that previously colored a huge area of the Eastern USA. In precolonial times, Eastern White Pines were regularly reported to grow over 200+ tall.

Pinus strobus is on the City of Asheville Recommended Species List (Update 2022).
