Green and Gold
Chrysogonum virginianum

Delightful semi-evergreen perennial groundcover native to WNC. Cheerful little yellow flowers in spring - but may also bloom throughout the growing season - atop the semi-matte green foliage with fuzzy undersides.

Like other members of the Aster family, Green and Gold plants are sturdy, resilient plants and very easy to grow in moist, well-draining soil. Tuck these plants under trees and shrubs, spilling over rock walls and containers, massed as a groundcover or border edge in a shady area, and any place you need something truly low maintenance as these plants thrive on neglect.

Ideal for butterfly gardens, children's gardens, forest gardens, native gardens, pollinator gardens, shade gardens, and more!

🐝Bees: our native bees would prefer that you plant Green and Gold as a "living mulch" instead of actual mulch, which they view as a food desert.

Happiest in partial sun in moist, well-draining soil but they can tolerate full sun with ample watering. Will grow in full, deep shade but won't flower much. They can tolerate dry shade once established. Semi-evergreen.

3-6"T x 18-24"W.

Zone 5, cold hardy down to -20F.

💚Plant Nerd: Scientists debate whether or not these plants are actually 3 different species or not, and also whether or not they might be related to a handful of rare, obscure plants located in Madagascar - so rare we can't even find pictures of them!
