Celandine Poppy
Stylophorum diphyllum

RARE. Magnificent US native plants! These sturdy, low maintenance beauties are excellent in shaded woodland areas. If they are happy, their flowers will turn into yellow hairy pods that open to reveal seeds. Ants will then plant the seeds, gently spreading Celandine Poppies over the years.

These are GORGEOUS when combined with our other native woodland plants such as Geranium maculatum (Wild Geranium), Iris cristata (Dwarf Crested Iris), Mertensia virginica (Virginia Bluebells), Polemonium reptans (Jacob's Ladder), and more.

Best in medium to wet, humusy soils in part shade to full shade. If soils dry out in summer these plants often go dormant.

Our native bees love the flowers! Small mammals enjoy eating the seeds of these plants. Deer avoid them.

Native Americans used the sap in the stems as a natural dye.

Hardy to zone 4 (-30F). Best blooming in partial shade but they will tolerate deep shade.
