Iris virginica
WNC Native, where it is found in sedge meadows, marshes, along stream banks and more. Graceful sword-shaped foliage with blue-violet flowers. Perennial. When they are happy, they will slowly spread and try to form colonies.
🐝Pollinator Powerhouses! They attract bees, skippers (butterflies), and hummingbirds.
🦋In NC, they are host plants for at least 12 species of butterflies and moths.
Can handle water up to 6” deep.

Zones 5-7, cold hardy down to -20F.
💚Plant nerd: These plants have a history of medicinal use. The Cherokee have pounded the underground rhizomes into a paste, which they would use as a salve.
