Seersucker Sedge, Plantain-leaved Sedge
Carex plantaginea
WNC native species. Unusually, these have wide, strappy foliage with a seersucker texture. Showy, flowering spikes are dark purple-brown tipped with yellow. Clump-forming perennials that prefer moist, well-draining soil high in organic matter. Mixes well with other shade-preferring woodland plants.
🐦Birds: Ruffled grouse and Wild turkey enjoy eating the seeds.
