NATIVAR. Beautiful 2½" flowers, bright rosy-pink with dark red blotches. The funnel-shaped flowers are held in conical-shaped trusses, backed by lustrous dark green evergreen foliage. They bloom early Midseason to Midseason.
Slow growing, with a rounded dense habit, these are long-lived shrubs that can live for over 40 years. They are very cold hardy for Rhododendrons.
They are happiest with morning sunlight and afternoon shade, and moist, well-draining soil.
Cold hardy to zone 5b (-15F).
Plant Nerd: These are classic yet hard-to-find Rhododendrons, hybridized by the famous (ok well famous in plant circles) Mr. Shammarello in 1958. The parentage is: Cunningham's White x red catawbiense seedling. Rhododendron catawbiense is native to the mountains of WNC.
