Texas Sedge
Carex texensis
Clumpers with a fine texture. Despite the name, these sedges are found in a widespread area, and are native to WNC. Sturdy enough to handle light foot traffic, these sedges are less fussy than most, and can handle both moist to dry soils. They can also handle full sun as long as they have ample moisture.
Use these under trees, in native gardens, natural meadows, shade gardens, and as a low maintenance lawn alternative.
Drought and heat tolerant once established.
✂️Shear them back in late winter, and after they finish blooming to maintain a neater appearance.
Zone 5, cold hardy down to -20F.
