Diervilla x splendens 'SMNDSD' USPP 35,792
Upgrade your fall color display with this upgraded plant! Kodiak Red 2.0 is sure to delight you with darker, longer lasting color. The blush on the new growth throughout the growing season is more reliable and the red of the fall color is intense. It’s a warm red with hints of orange. All throughout the summer, little yellow flowers appear, feeding pollinators discreetly. It’s an ideal plant for the middle of the border, mixed hedges, native plantings, and even cut flower gardens where its foliage is perfect as filler.
Benefits pollinators.
Zones 3-8 / cold hardy to -40F.
Plant Nerd: Diervilla x splendens is a hybrid mix of two different WNC plant species - D. sessilifolia and D. lonicera. These are excellent plants to use in the landscape! Choose Diervilla as a native alternative to Abelia, Berberis (Barberry), and/or the asian Spiraeas. Diervilla is not invasive in the landscape; all species of Diervilla are native to eastern North America.
