'Dropmore Scarlet' Honeysuckle Vine
Lonicera x brownii 'Dropmore Scarlet'
Stunning! Attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators with these hybrid WNC Native Beauties!
'Dropmore Scarlet' is a beautiful perennial vine with vibrant red to orange tubular flower clusters, backed by attractive blue-green foliage. Long lasting small red berries follow the blooms. These handsome twining vines are heavy bloomers, perfect for arbors, trellises, and chain-link fences where they can grow and flower freely.
Deciduous, but may be semi-evergreen during mild winters.
Happiest in moist, fertile soil but these plants are very adaptable and can handle a range of conditions. They can be planted near Black Walnut trees.
Use them in cottage, pollinator, wildlife, and children's gardens, or wherever you need a colorful vine.
🐦Wildlife: Fantastic for attracting hummingbirds! Dropmore Scarlet can also bring butterflies and bees to the garden.
🌞Sun Loving: Grow these in full sun for the best show of blooms. They can also tolerate partial shade.
✂️Happily Pruned: Vigorous, but not aggressive. Prune in autumn after flowering to encourage new flowering stems for the coming season.
8-12'T X 5-6'W
Zones 4-9, cold hardy down to -30F.
🌿Plant Nerd: European breeders love American plants, and these plants are no exception. Lonicaera x brownii is actually a cross of Lonicera hirsuta (native to North America, a bit north of here) and Lonicera sempervirens (native to WNC). These plants are the best of the both worlds, with beautiful, long lasting flowers alongside serious cold hardiness.
