Heirloom from 1834 Connecticut, aka Pumpkin Sweet, long popular in the South. Flavor is sweet, mild, with a hint of melon and cream soda. Large yellow-green apples with crisp flesh are excellent for baking, cooking, applesauce, apple butter, and desserts. While these taste sweet, they do not have a high sugar content, rather they are low in acidity. Like many other heirloom apples, Pound Sweet is prone to a biennial tendency unless fruits are thinned. Tip bearer.

One source in 1905 says "one of the best sweet apples of its season for baking and for canning or stewing with quinces."

Early to mid season bloomer. Pollinator required.

Disease resistances: very resistant to fireblight, although there are some conflicting reports. Moderately resistant to scab and powdery mildew.

1834 heirloom from Manchester, Connecticut. Also known as Pumpkin sweet, Lyman's Large Yellow, Round Sweet, Vermont Sweet, Rhode Island Sweet, Yankee Apple, Sweet Pumpkin.
