RARE. Legendary 1840s heirloom from New York. Superb for cider and desserts - fantastic for all apple uses except for drying. Yellowish flesh is fine grained, rather firm, very tender, crisp, and juicy. The intensely tart, aromatic, and acidic flavor is balanced with potent sweetness. Winter apples that can keep up to 7 months in proper cold storage. Slow to bear.
Late season bloomer. Pollinator required. Produces mid-late season.
Disease resistances: immune to woolly apple aphid, slightly resistant to fireblight.
1840s heirloom from East Bloomfield, New York. Also known as Northern Spice, Spy, Adair Red, and King Apple. Reportedly the name comes from a notorious novel published around 1830, popular with anti-abolitionists.
