Southern Magnolia - Kay Parris

Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris'

Lush, fragrant, and resilient. A wonderful selection of one of the grand beauties of the South - Southern Magnolias!

Enjoy huge, creamy white fragrant flowers - up to 7" - repeatedly over a long season. Extremely glossy, bright green leaves with deep orange-brown velvety undersides. Growth is fast. Habit is somewhat upright and columnar, making these an excellent choice for locations where one would like a Southern Magnolia, but can't fit one of the larger-sized ones.

The evergreen foliage add texture and warmth to the winter landscape, with rich green surfaces and rusty bronze undersides. Plant near entrances, seating, and walkways to enjoy the fragrance.

Can also be grouped together to form a dreamy and extravagant evergreen privacy screen.

Southern Magnolia is a wonderful plant native to the US South. Generally found in more coastal regions, these sturdy plants enjoy plenty of water, especially when getting established.

Named by Magnolia expert Kevin Parris of Spartanburg, South Carolina for his mother.

'Kay Parris' is thought to be cross between 'Bracken's Brown' and 'Little Gem' Magnolia, and shows characteristics of both parents. 'Kay Parris' is smaller than 'Bracken's Brown', but larger than 'Little Gem'. 'Kay Parris' also has better fuzzy velvety undersides to her foliage, more reminiscent of 'Bracken's Brown' than 'Little Gem'.

Award winning: Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 2012.

Happiest when grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, and well-drained soils.

Full sun. 40'T x 20'W. Zone 6a-9b.
