Doghobble 'Girard's Rainbow'
Leucothoe fontanesiana ‘Girard’s Rainbow’
RARE. Evergreen, native to WNC. Gracefully arching, striking red stems with colorful, creamy white and green mottled foliage with pink accents. Showy, drooping clusters of white fragrant flowers attract pollinators. Effective as a hedge, and covering steep, moist slopes. Loves staying cool & humidity. These are wonderful when combined with their natural friends, Rhododendrons.
Uncommon in the landscape, these gorgeous shrubs deserve to be used more widely in moist shade gardens. You can see this species in the wild when you visit the incredible Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.
Ideal for: Cottage Gardens, Native Gardens, Pollinator Gardens, Rain Gardens, Shade Gardens, Winter Gardens, and more!
🐝Help native bees: bees and other pollinators really love the spring blooms.
🦌Extremely Deer Resistant: deer and other herbivores rarely bother these plants.
💧Moisture: These plants love water! Be generous, especially when they are young and during any dry spells.
