Cherry - Montmorency - Pie Cherry
Prunus x
The absolute standard of all tart cherries - famous for making excellent pies. Bright red fruit with yellow flesh. Early and heavy producer of medium-sized cherries. Best for fresh eating, pies, cooking, canning, and freezing. Self-pollinating. French heirloom from the 1600s. These are the pie cherries planted in Michigan.
✨One of the most successful Cherries for the WNC area.
🛡️Natural Disease Resistance: medium resistance to Bacterial Canker. 🌞Sunlight - best cherry production in full sunlight (6-8 hours of direct sunlight). Zones 4-7, cold hardy down to -30F.
💚Plant Nerd: Site these plants where they will have excellent soil drainage and air flow all around. Avoid frost pockets, down in the bottom of a holler or valley, if possible.
