Extremely fine textured foliage emerges dark red changing to glowing yellow green to make a soft billowy mound of golden threads. White flowers in spring yield red fruit in the fall.
Sambucus racemosa is native to Western North Carolina. These plants are very sturdy and resilient once established (1-2 years), and can be used for slope stabilization.
