Rotblum Bergenia, Pigsqueak
Bergenia cordifolia 'Rotblum'

Rotblum has beautiful pink flower clusters in spring, atop burgundy stems. Year round, these plants offer thick, leathery evergeen leaves that when rubbed between your fingers let off a sound similar to a pig squeak, that turn burgundy red in fall and winter. Both flowers and leaves are great in floral arrangements. Durable and versatile in the garden. Happiest in part shade and rich, moist well-drained soils either in the ground or in containers. Useful as borders in shady beds. Species is native to Asia.

🦌Extremely Deer Resistant: these plants are extremely resistant to damage from deer and other herbivores.

Partial shade.

1-1.5'T x W.

Zones 3-8, cold hardy down to -40F.

💚Plant Nerd: The Genus name of Bergenia honors German physician and botanist Karl August von Bergen (1704-1759). His best known writing was the great hit Flora Francofurtana of 1750, which meticulously inventoried the plants found around Frankfurt at that time, and is still available to this day. He also had a special interest in Rhinoceros.
