Calycanthus floridus
AKA Carolina allspice. Fragrant mahogany-red flowers April - May, with a scent ranging from banana, to pineapple, to strawberry. Dark green foliage turns clear yellow in fall. Adaptable and low maintenance. Flowers, leaves, twigs and bark may be dried to use in potpourri.
This is wonderful planted near front doors and pathways where one can easily enjoy the fruity scent.
Deciduous. WNC Native.
