RARE. A profusion of dark red, bell-shaped flowers nods from the delicate, upright branches of this medium-sized shrub. In autumn, the small, whorled, green leaves become a remarkable, deep, dark red. Slow growing, prefers rich moist soils. Species is native to Japan. Deciduous.

These plants combine very beautifully with Rhododendrons, which they are related to.
