Apple 'Liberty'
Malus 'NY 55140-19' (Macoun x Perdue 54-12)

One of the very best apple trees for natural disease resistance!

Great apple for beginners, busy gardeners, and those looking for easy-to-grow trees using strictly organic methods! Medium to large, bright, shiny, McIntosh type fruit is red striped with yellow-green background. Best for fresh eatingcooking, and canningMay benefit from extra calcium. Spur-bearing.

Early to Mid-season bloomer
. Fruit does not ripen at the same time. Pollinator requiredpoor pollinator of other trees. This means you'll want at least 3 different apple trees blooming around the same time. There is great debate as to whether Liberty is technically triploidy or a diploid with weird genes, in any case, it's best to treat it as if it is triploidy and to plant 3 trees to ensure that all are properly pollinated.

Disease resistances: apple scab (immune), cedar apple rust (highly resistant), fireblight (highly resistant), and powdery mildew (highly resistant).

New York, 1978. The remarkable disease resistance comes from Malus floribunda (Japanese Flowering Crabapple) genetics.

Zones 4-7. Cold hardy to -30F.
