WNC Native. Striking green and black stems on this vigorous ancient marginal evergreen aquatic perennial from 380+ million years ago. Very easy to grow.
Perfect for wetlands, water gardens, rain gardens, and containers. Excellent for erosion control, provides wildlife habitat.
Popular in Asian and modern designs, providing fine textured vertical interest. Extremely durable and can even be aggressive. Survive and thrive where other plants fail to grow.
Can handle water up to 4” deep.

Plant nerd: The ridges contain silica which deer don't like. During colonial times, people would take advantage of this silica to scrub and polish pots and pans.
These plants are so ancient they don't produce flowers or seeds! They reproduce asexually, and also by spores.
