In proper cold storage, the apples can keep for up to 3 months. Vigorous, lovely trees that start bearing when fairly young. A great choice for organic folks.
Disease resistances: Highly resistant to scab and moderately resistant to fireblight, cedar- apple rust, all types of canker, and mildew.
Midseason bloomer.
Cold hardy to zone 4 (-30F).
Plant Nerd: Freedom was developed at the famous Cornell apple breeding station in Geneva, NY and released in 1983. It is the offspring of two breeding selections, one of which has Macoun, Antonovka, and McIntosh in its parentage, while the other has Golden Delicious, Rome, and Malus floribunda.
