Apple - Freedom

Wonderful dessert apples with exceptional disease resistance! Very easy to grow! Great choice for beginners, busy gardeners, and organic gardeners. Large fruits with a juicy tender flesh great for fresh eating, cider, juicing and cooking. In proper cold storage, the apples can keep for up to 3 months. Vigorous, lovely trees that start bearing when fairly young.

Disease resistances: Highly resistant to scab and moderately resistant to fireblight, cedar- apple rust, all types of canker, and mildew.

Midseason bloomer. Pollinator required. Good pollinator for Liberty.

Cold hardy to zone 4 (-30F).

Plant Nerd: Freedom was developed at the famous Cornell apple breeding station in Geneva, NY and released in 1983. It is the offspring of two breeding selections, one of which has Macoun, Antonovka, and McIntosh in its parentage, while the other has Golden Delicious, Rome, and Malus floribunda.
