Giant Redwood 'Glaucum'
Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Glaucum'

The giant redwood is the most massive trees in the world, hailing from the Sierra Nevada mountain range, where they are endangered. Forunately, these spectacular evergreen trees are quite adaptable and can be grown in many parts of the world. They have an overall pyramidal shape. The bark is reddish-brown, spongy, ridged, furrowed, and textured (cork-like). Use them as shade trees and incredible specimens. 'Glauca' Giant Redwoods have blue-tinted foliage, a slower growth rate than the species, and a narrow habit.

Giant Redwoods defy plant rules - they are both fast growing AND long-lived. They are prized for not only their massive size and beauty, but their ability to sequester carbon. Wildlife enjoy eating their seeds.

🦌Deer resistant: Giant Redwoods aren't at the top of the deer menu.

🔥Fire resistant. Giant Redwoods are resistant to low temperature fires.

🌞Sunlight: these plants are best in full sun (6-8 hours of direct sunlight).

60-275'T x 25-60'W.

Zones 6a-8b, cold hardy down to -10F.

💚Plant Nerd: Prior to the last ice age, Giant Redwoods once grew in a much larger area across North America and Eurasia. In the wild, they are dependent on low temperature fires to help continue their species, the trees themselves are resistant to these low temperature fires. Both trees, their seeds, and their seedlings are greatly harmed by high temperature fires.
